AI Creativity
Project Overview:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is bringing new possibilities to numerous fields. There have been a lot of discussions about the development of AI technologies and the challenges caused by AI, such as job replacement and ethical issues. However, it’s far from enough to discuss using AI creatively systematically and how AI can enhance human creativity. After studying over 1,600 application cases across more than 45 areas and analyzing related academic publications, we believe focusing on collaboration with AI will benefit us far more than dwelling on competing against AI.
“AI Creativity” is the concept we want to introduce here: the ability for humans and AI to co-live and co-create by playing to each other’s strengths to achieve more. AI complements human intelligence and consolidates wisdom from humankind’s achievements, making collaboration across time and space possible. AI empowers us throughout the creative process and makes creativity more accessible and inclusive than ever. The corresponding Human-AI Co-Creation Model we proposed explains the creative process in the era of AI, with new possibilities brought by AI in each phase.
My Role:
AI Researcher.
I took part in writing the AI Creativity Report and outlining our proposed theories and models. My role is to critique and refine our core values by studying over 1400 AI application cases across more than 45 areas.
Duration:
1 Year
Project Time:
June 2020 – January 2021
Delivery 1: AI Creativity Report 2021
As we move on from the primitive state of AI to a more mature state in the future, I hope to see society paying more attention to one’s creativity rather than just logic, rational thinking and computational power being the standard of intelligence. The “Human-AI Collaborative Creation Model” is one of our core values that outlines the ability of humans and AI to live and create together by playing to each other’s strengths.
Therefore, we wrote the academic essay for CREO specifying the details of our models and theories, which Springer published in 2021. The first draft was showcased at the World Industrial Design Conference 2020 held at Tsinghua University. Throughout the past few months, I took part in coordinating with different opinions from our team and drafted the slides for the presentation.
Delivery 2: Research Paper
Got invited to participate in the 2021 HCI International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction and submitted a research paper about “AI Creativity and The Human-AI Collaborative Creation Model” as one of the authors.
Delivery 3: Hand-coded websites
In Emily Carr’s Responsive Design and Interactive Design course, I manually turned the previous research into a live website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
